Nick’s journey into real estate began with his education at San Diego State University (SDSU), where he majored in finance and real estate. During his time at SDSU, he was not only a dedicated student and a member of the rugby team but also an active participant in the Real Estate Society, eventually serving as its president. His academic achievements were complemented by his participation in the NAIOP University Challenge, where his team’s victory underscored his ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical, real-world challenges.
During his undergraduate career, Nick ventured into the brokerage field, specializing in multifamily properties. His tenure in this sector was marked by significant achievements, including the sale of several commercial buildings totaling approximately $12 million.
Seeking to broaden his professional capabilities, Nick pursued a law degree at the University of San Diego (USD), followed by an LLM in Taxation. These academic pursuits were paralleled by practical experience in construction litigation and real estate law at the firm Finch, Thornton & Baird, providing him with a robust legal framework to navigate the complexities of real estate transactions and development projects.
As an Asset Manager at Square One Development, Nick leverages his deep understanding of the San Diego real estate market and his legal acumen, particularly in tax, contractual, and regulatory aspects of real estate management. This ensures compliance and mitigates risks as he manages the company’s $180 million portfolio of commercial, industrial, and office properties. With a specialization in ground-up development, focusing on both commercial and residential asset classes, Nick oversees the strategic management of assets to maximize value, the identification and execution of development opportunities, and the maintenance of tenant relations and property performance.
Beyond his responsibilities at Square One Development, Nick contributes to the real estate and legal fields as a lecturer at SDSU, teaching business law. He is also actively involved in several professional and philanthropic organizations, including the Corky McMillan Center for Real Estate at SDSU, NAIOP, the USD Alumni Association, the California Bar, and his own foundation, Every Kid Plays, which supports underprivileged youth in participating in organized sports.
